"Spinning Off Innovation -
The Cleveland BioLabs Story"

Featuring Yakov Kogan, Ph.D., MBA

Cleveland BioLabs, Inc. (Nasdaq: CBLI) is a Buffalo-based biotechnology company leveraging its proprietary discoveries around programmed cell death to develop a robust pipeline of drugs for multiple medical and defense applications. Founded in 2003, the company moved its headquarters to Buffalo in 2007 to capitalize on synergies in development and clinical application of novel oncology therapeutics provided by the Roswell Park Cancer Institute and the Buffalo-Niagara region.

Its first subsidiary, Incuron, LLC, is developing anticancer compounds targeting several major cell stress response pathways that are frequently deregulated in cancer. Having launched operations in April 2010, Incuron is currently dosing patients with gastrointestinal and liver tumors in a Phase I single-dose ascending trial
.

CBLI’s second subsidiary, Panacela Labs, develops new pre-clinical drug candidates and recently entered into agreement with the RUSNANO, a $10 billion Russian Federation fund, in September 2011. This agreement will bring expertise to develop economically effective and socially important pharmaceuticals for both the Russian and global markets.

Learn more about the company’s unique business model related to spinning out R&D innovation and how this model can be applicable to other companies in the region.
